Question: Does the false widow spider have red markings?
( Back )
Answer #1:
Some of them might but not normally. A particularly dangerous relative of black widows, the Australian redback does have those kinds of markings.Answer #2:
There's definitely a sporting chance that this is an imported Redback, and you might want to take one down to your local university or natural history museum for a positive ID. There is an alternative, one of the 'False Widows', called Steatoda paykulliana which I believe has recently been expanfing its range in Britain as the world warms. That's the second link, but it sounds like yours has far too little red to make me think that's a likely possibility. I'd put my money on the Redback.** Powered by Yahoo Answers
