I just got back from Maui and I have to say its so much more beautiful than anywhere in Florida. If you HAVE to do Florida, maybe consider Key West. I think it definitely has a laid back feel to it and beautiful beaches too.

If you like Florida, try the Emerald Coast area around Destin and Panama City Beach - it's great. I used to have a house on the beach in Panama City Beach. Beautiful sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.
